Wednesday, March 16, 2022

6:30 p.m., Pasquotank County Library

Present: Emely Arredondo, Karl Brandspigel, Sharon Burtner, Nita Coleman, Phil Donahue, Marlene Greer, Rodney Johnson, Anne Radke, John Stolarczyk, Jared Tardiff, Curtis & Sheila Wrenn

Conflict of Interest Policy (Nita)

Policy was sent out ahead of the meeting for review. A question was raised as to what a record of the vote would look like. Will it have our name and our vote? Or just record the yeas and nays? Want it to be confidential. Nita will talk to George Jackson to confirm. Approval moved to the next meeting.

Treasurer’s Report and Proposed Budget (Sheila)

The following allocations and payments were approved:

$2,000 moved from the Jim Sakolosky Memorial Fund to the Plants for Pollinators event

$5,000 payment to the College of the Albemarle Foundation for Fenwick-Hollowell Trail

$1,000 moved from the general fund to the Roots & Shoots program

A 2022 proposed budget, including these approved allocations and payments, was submitted and unanimously approved.

We received $4,000 from the Shell Oil Foundation as a match to a donation we received last year from Steve Ownby, a Shell employee.

Finance Committee

Bylaws call for us to have a finance committee made up of the executive committee and others who are appointed. Nita, Marlene, Sheila, and Scott Sullens were appointed to the committee.

Other board business

Jared mentioned the Urban Forestry Commission has spots open on its board for people who live in the city or county. The Commission does projects around town. The biggest initiative is to get an inventory of trees around the city.
