Educators

We want to help you get your students engaged in local environmental issues and inspire them to care for the world we live in. If you need funds to help you make a campus environmental project happen, we invite you to apply for an Action Grant. If you want to get your students outdoors, we can arrange a campus litter cleanup or hands-on river water quality testing. For more outdoor environmental education, we have a resource list of local organizations that offer field trip opportunities.

Membership in Green Saves Green is free for educators and students.

Action Grants

If you and your students have an environmental project in mind for your campus or community, we invite you to apply for a Green Saves Green Action Grant.

Campus Cleanups

If you have a group of students who want to do a litter cleanup of their campus, we can help. Select a day and time and we will show up with all the supplies needed and engage your students in an educational program on how litter harms wildlife, the environment, and our health.

Difficult to select a specific day and time? No problem. We can loan you litter cleanup supplies for up to a month and you can take your students outdoors to clean up anytime and as often as you wish.

For more information and to arrange a day and time for a campus cleanup or to borrow our supplies, email info@greensavesgreen.org. For more about our cleanup opportunities, click here: Litter Sweep.

Student Water Quality Testing

Green Saves Green does regular monitoring of local river water quality as part of ongoing research at NC State and UNC. We’ve developed a student water quality testing program where students in fifth grade and higher can learn why water quality is important and do several hands-on tests. We can do the program in the classroom or outdoors near a body of water.

For more information and to arrange a day and time for water quality testing, email info@greensavesgreen.org. To learn more about how Green Saves Green monitors local river water quality, click here: Watershed Watch.

Recycle Right

Styrofoam, plastic bags, pizza box, plastic utensils, toothpaste tube, soda can. Which items can be recycled and which go in the trash? What to recycle can be complicated, and the rules vary from county to county, especially with plastic. We’ll help your students navigate the confusing world of recycling. The more people who Recycle Right, the less contamination and the higher percentage of products recycled. The program is suitable for third grade and higher.

To schedule a day and time for this in-classroom discussion, email info@greensavesgreen.org.

Field Trips & Guest Speakers

Tour a local wind farm, visit a wetlands project, and learn to identify native trees. We’ve created a resource list of local environmental field trips and in-class education opportunities to enhance your students’ understanding, knowledge and appreciation of the environment.
