Do Not Litter Community Awareness Project

This multifaceted project is designed to bring awareness, education, and hopefully, action. GSG, in partnership with Arts of the Albemarle, will host a Do Not Litter Poster Contest for adults and for students in grades K-12 in Pasquotank County. The contest launched on June 1 and runs to Sep. 25, 2025.

Ten winners will be selected in five categories. Cash and other prizes will be awarded. We are working with the city and county to have the winning posters turned into signs that will be placed on city roadsides. David and MaryAnn staffed the GSG information table at the First Friday Artwalk.

They were pleased with the number of people who stopped at the table and created artwork.

GSG will provide paper to anyone who needs it, and will offer the use of our paints, brushes, and other supplies. Please spread the word to any camps, home-school groups, clubs, churches, etc.

Timbermill Wind Tour

Thank you to Nita and Rodney for coordinating and organizing the tour. Thirty-six people attended, including four families with children. GSG plans on offering tours of the Timbermill Wind Farm in the future.

NEAAAT Students Environmental Presentations

Erin Bradley and Jada Cole presented the benefits of Native Plant Landscaping. They shared how native plants in northeastern NC positively affect the environment. Native plants help gardens survive in favorable conditions and provide food and habitat for pollinators. Rafael Griffin, Jr. presented on water level rise, soil erosion, and water quality. He discussed the prevention of soil erosion by planting trees, grasses and vegetation, placing stone, wood and other reinforcements along waterways, and managing stormwater runoff.

Code Enforcement Presentation

Adrianne Cole, Pasquotank Code Enforcement Officer, discussed the impact of her position in the County. She noted that Code Enforcement is a “complaint based” reporting system, so members of the community can call in or submit an online report of code violations, such as litter, yard rubbish, overgrown properties, etc. The goal of the county is to encourage property owners to clean up or maintain their yards/land in a safe and sanitary condition.
