Plants For Pollinators

Admission is free. Sign up here to attend.

Calling all gardeners! Green Saves Green welcomes you to our Plants for Pollinators Workshop and Giveaway on Saturday June 4, 10:30 am at Museum of the Albemarle!

Would you like to attract more butterflies, birds, and bees to your garden? We’ve invited Nicole Knudson, owner of Lady Fern’s Native Plants in Norfolk VA, to help you get started. She’ll explain the benefits of native plants, and show us some good choices to attract pollinators to the home garden. Next, Jane and Bobby Plough will introduce you to the NC Wildlife Federation’s Butterfly Highway program. Then, all of our attendees will receive free butterfly weed plants and wildflower seeds to take home.

Everybody is welcome: young, old and in between, experienced gardeners and total beginners. No yard is too small—even a container plant on a deck or balcony can help.

Plants for Pollinators was planned to honor Jim Sakolosky, a founding member of Green Saves Green. Jim loved pollinators and native plants. He and his wife Dixie made their beautiful garden in Nixonton a colorful haven for birds, bees, and butterflies. Jim died in April 2020, but his legacy lives on. The donations Green Saves Green received in his memory will help create new pollinator pit stops throughout our community. Join us to learn how you can create a welcoming oasis for butterflies and other pollinators in your backyard.
